It's been awhile since my last entry, and need to apologize. Life has been crazy busy here as I knew it would be. I finally had the big luau themed graduation party, for my Honey. He earned his Master's degree this month, and I am so proud of him. The garden was ready for his celebration, however, Mother Nature threw us a curve ball. It rained for the first half of the party. It finally quit raining and we were able to dry things off, just in time to get the candles and tiki's lit. It turned out to be a fabulous evening. I have been taking photos to capture the progression of the garden. I will start by showing some of the blooms that we were able to enjoy this month. I will bore you with all the photos at another time. For now,
Allium
The blooms of this variegated Weigela do a good job of competing with the foliage.
The first bloom of the Peony that my aunt Mel gave me last fall.
My dad gave me this Almost Black Iris last fall. It is definitely black before it blooms.
This is a new edition to our garden. My Honey gave me a couple of weeks ago. Is she not a show stopper? I love her. I have the best Honey.
Does she not just scream the Tropics?
If you recall, my sister gave me this Rhodo last fall. I was worried that she might not bloom this year due to shock. I guess I worried for nothing. I am also realizing that I received a lot of plants this last fall.
The Hyacinth Bean plant is doing OK. I thought it might be a bit larger. Maybe it will be bigger by the end of summer. I am going to move her into a sunnier location.
The Wave Petunia's that were started from seed are doing good.
I think they are a beautiful color.
The Mock Orange tree is in full bloom. I am happy she is doing well after the move.
Another flower that I got a start from Aunt Mel years ago. This rose is very invasive as well. I have given a few starts away, cut a few down, and still have a few more to give away. I am going build a small structure to support her in the future. Nothing elaborate, maybe an old gate or window frame. We will see.
The Water Lilies are blooming and growing well. Every year I always look for the red lily to bloom, but it never does. Maybe this will be the year. It might have died out, I really have no idea, I have separated them all a few times.
The Hosta's have taken over the once empty flower bed. At this rate I will have to divide them this fall. I know just were I will put them.
The following three photos are taken from the back door. I started with the view from the far left and scanned towards the right.
Here are a couple of my favorite Hosta's at the moment.
I failed to mention anything about the weather. As I have said, I was very busy the first two weeks of May. Who am I kidding, I have been busy all spring. lol Anyway, with all the busyness, I was not going to be able to put out the veggie garden until the 17th of May. It has rained here everyday at one time or another, since a week before the party. I knew I needed to til the garden before I could plant and I couldn't do that until the ground dried up a little. Not to mention I still needed to get the fencing put up. I have to worry about rabbits and deer you know.
Here is what the garden plots looked like this afternoon.
A mess.
I first tilled the garden. Notice the potato plant that I tilled around. lol
Here is where I plan to put the corn again.
It is hard to see in the photo, but there is chicken wire around the garden. The bottom 2 feet is chicken wire. I tried string to each fence post so the deer might not want to jump into it. Who knows, my deer will probably just eat the string, then my plants.
I have no fencing around the plot on the right, just string. I ran out of fencing. I plan on putting the tomato, corn, and possibly the squash and cucumber in this plot. I think that the deer might just stay out anyway. Keep your fingers crossed.
That will do it for now. I promise to be a little more current with my postings.
